Mainline Fancy Dress is committed to the distance selling regulations in regards to online retail transactions. As a result we list below our returns policy and procedure, which we suggest you read and understand before making any purchase and forming a contract with us. Mainline Fancy Dress will provide the goods you have ordered, at the costs stated and in the time specified but subject always to availability, credit status, prevailing political climate and acts of god. Orders are taken subject to availability of products and if for any reason we do not supply any product, we will refund any money already paid for these products. However, we will not be liable for any other losses or expenses that you may incur if we do not supply them.

The nature of some of the items we sell makes it extremely difficult for us always to provide precise descriptions and specifications. We do our best to provide you with all the information we believe you need to make an informed purchase, but please be aware that any descriptions and specifications are always a guideline, and open to personal opinion. A costume or wig will often look slightly different from the packaging or picture provided. We encourage you, wherever possible, to get into store and look at the item. We will always be happy to help with this.

Your Right to Cancel

Once you have completed a purchase you have the right to cancel within 7 days of the transaction. This must be done by contacting us via e-mail ( informing us of the reason for cancellation. If the goods have not been shipped then we will take no further action and no order will be processed. If the goods have been shipped then your card will have already been charged, in this case we ask that you simply return the goods un-opened from their original postal packaging and we will refund your transaction once the goods are back in our possession. Refusal of Goods to be delivered does not constitute canceling your order, you must advise us. If goods are returned to us without authorization we will deduct a administration fee from any refund due to you. Goods must be returned to us at Mainline Fancy Dress, 153 Sidwell Street, Exeter, Devon, EX4 6RT. You must post the goods back to us within 7 days of notifying us you wish to cancel. We recommend you use a method of postage that can track the goods and ensure delivery as the goods are at your risk until we receive them back in-store.

        Upon receipt of your goods your right to cancel

Once received and opened the goods are deemed to be in your possession. You are still entitled to a refund within 7 days of receipt of goods. If you wish to use this right then please e-mail us ( stating the reason for return, whether the goods have been opened or not, whether they have been worn, and when you will be returning the goods to us. You will receive an acknowledgement from us, and a refund will be processed via your original payment method once the goods are returned to us. We accept that you will want to open the goods to inspect them, and you may want to return them after this. All we ask is that while the goods are in your possession they are treated with due care and attention. All our goods are simply opened without damaging whenever required, we ask that you ensure this is done carefully. All packaging must be carefully opened and retained, costumes must not have marks on them, i.e. make-up marks, and they must not smell of smoke or be covered in pet hair. We ask that they are in a re-saleable condition, as close to new as possible. If these conditions are met a full refund will be issued. Any completed transaction that is not cancelled within 7 days of receipt of goods will not automatically be entitled to a refund. If you wish to cancel after this period please get in touch with us via e-mail ( to discuss your options. We may, up to 30 days from the date of your transaction, be prepared to offer you an exchange or credit note depending on the circumstances.

Your Duty of Care:

Whilst the goods are in your possession you are under a duty of care to protect those goods if you wish to exercise your right to cancel. Once a parcel is opened the goods are in your possession, and you must take good care of all packaging, products and any other materials in case you wish to exercise your right to cancel.

Our opinion of duty of care includes:

  • Not ripping packaging of products
  • Not using a product of underwear such as tights or stockings
  • Not using an Eye Accessory Product
  • Not using Facepaint/Make-up
  • Not trying on a costume and allowing it to become covered in Pet Hair, Make-up or smell of smoke
  • Not wearing an item that cannot be resold for hygiene issues such as a wig.
If you abide by these conditions of Duty of Care then all of your above rights remain if you decide to return an item within the specified period and under our Terms and Conditions. If the Duty of Care is not stuck to then you may not be due a refund.

Faulty Items

If an item is discovered to be faulty then we must be informed within 48 hours of receipt of goods. We suggest that as soon as it is possible you check the item, any faults informed to us after this period may raise our suspicion as to whether you have caused the fault yourself, and as a result you will not be due a refund if this is the case. If you discover a faulty item please e-mail us at ( informing us whether you would like a replacement, or whether you will be returning the product for a full refund. Replacements can only be sent once we have received the goods back in store, and refunds can only be processed if the item comes back to us within 30 days of acknowledgement of a fault, and all packaging is returned (we insist packaging being returned because we need this to claim a refund for the fault ourselves).
